Reported by: Rachel Cox Friday, Nov 14, 2008 @05:34pm CST AMARILLO --- A Michigan Police department recently connected Canyon Police and said they had tracked child porn being sent from a computer in Canyon. During their investigation, Canyon Police have narrowed it down to one seventeen-year-old male suspect who lives in the town.
Police say he started meeting minors online through his Myspace and Facebook accounts. He would then befriend them in chat rooms and exchange phone numbers and email addresses. From there, pornographic pictures were emailed and texted back and forth. Police say the teen has been in contact with at least six underage individuals across six different states. Police say as part of the new digital age, parents have to educate themselves better to know what their children may be involved in on the internet. The teen in Canyon is seventeen years old so if he does face any charges, he'll be tried as an adult. As for the minors police say he was in contact with, each state will determine if they face any charges. Canyon police say they're working to finish their investigation. Then they'll turn it over to the Randall County District Attorney. They say they're expecting to serve a warrant in the next two weeks. Now that canyon police say they know what's going on, they say even if parents don't want to, they must get familiar with the sites their kids may be on. To start, tell you kids you want to see their profiles, and make sure you keep the computer in an area where everyone can see what sites they're visiting. Don't let your kids have computers in their rooms. |
