Reported by: Chris Martin Monday, Feb 2, 2009 @11:19am CST ST. JOSEPH, MO - It's not only good for the environment but going green could also save you money. The Bloomquist family is hoping to save big money by making some small changes. They love the natural beauty all around their home. And what a home it is, big enough for nine kids.
Now they're ready to make that environment work for them. They want to turn this 3000-square foot energy hog into something a little more earth-friendly. But they're up against the Missouri-Iowa border. It's an area known for sweltering summers and brutal winters. That's why the Green Team was asked to help the Bloomquists. It's a group that helps people make their homes more energy efficient. Five team members divided up the house and looked for energy bandits. After a two-hour energy audit the team was ready to take action. They started by caulking and sealing. Then they put foam behind electrical outlets, which further insulates the house. The changes cost less than $800. The Bloomquists hope the changes will begin to pay off next month. Tune in next time to see the energy bills and find out if going green really does pay off. |
