Reported by: Tammy Mutasa Thursday, Jun 18, 2009 @05:51pm CDT DUMAS---Sixteen million dollars, that's how much it will cost to build a new overpass in Dumas.
But officials say when it's finally finished, it'll be worth it. Today the City of Dumas and Texas Department of Transportation broke the ground for their 920 foot, four lane overpass. It'll go over a set of railroad tracks in West Moore County. Officials say safety has always been an issue with the tracks and it's a Ports to Plains project that got priority funding. There were over $70 billion dollars worth of mobility and maintenance projects statewide on the agenda. "It ranked well, so we were able to do it, now there are other projects in the Ports to Plains that we have not been able to get to, but this project because of safety and the impact on the community was a priority we needed to get to first," says Texas Department of Transportation Amadeo Saenz. Construction bidding starts in August. The overpass is supposed to be finished in Fall 2011 |
