That's why Friona, the Official Cheeseburger Capital of Texas is celebrating. "This is the biggest one ever, this the 4th one and it just keeps growing each year," says Chris Alexander from the Friona Chamber of Commerce. This year the number of vendors doubled compared from last year. And the festival drew 16 cheeseburger today's festival and car show drew a crowd of about 2000 people from all over Texas, something the Chamber says will help their local economy. It's fitting for Friona to be the Official Cheeseburger Capital of Texas because, in Parmer County, they process about 2 million heard of cattle each year, which go to beef. Parmer county is the second largest milk producing county in Texas, which goes to cheese. And farmers planted more than 135,000 acres of wheat this year, which go to the buns of course. The cook-off and festival started back in 2006. |
