Reported by: David Martinez Thursday, Aug 6, 2009 @05:05pm CDT AMARILLO -- Only two campuses in the Amarillo Independent School District failed to make the grade on the Adequate Yearly Progress ratings.
According to the No Child Left Behind results, ninety-five percent of AISD campuses met the standards.
Tascosa High School and Fannin Middle School did not.
Across the nation, ever public school is graded on reading - language arts, math and either the graduation rate for high schools or the attendance rate for elementary, middle, and junior high schools.
For high schools they have to meet thirty different indicators.
"They may be unacceptable in just one area out of that thirty. So twenty-nine of the other areas are okay. But where that one unacceptable area is where the label goes. So then that goes out into the public and it creates I think a false impression as to the value of the school and to what's happening at that school," says Rod Schroder the Superintendent of the Amarillo Independent School District.
Every school in Canyon, Perryton, and Pampa met the requirements. To see if your child's school made the grade click here . Keep in mind the results can be confusing. For specifics you should call your school superintendent.
