Monday, Oct 5, 2009 @08:46am CDT LANCASTER --- A young Lancaster mother has become the sixth victim to die of H1N1 flu in Dallas County.
Heather Provorse was on a ventilator for more than a week before she died. Provorse's doctor declined to prescribe Tami-flu, the anti-viral drug that is effective in fighting influenza. Provorse was not considered to be a high-risk patient. The federal government considers people high risk if they are under the age of two or over 65 . Pregnant women and people with chronic health problems are also on the high-risk list as are those under 19 who've been treated with long-term aspirin therapy. The 25-year-old Provorse, who leaves an eight-year-old son, did not meet any of those criteria. (Copyright 2009 by VERTEXNews/Newsroom Solutions) |
