Monday, Nov 2, 2009 @08:14am CST WASHINGTON, D.C. --- Today in the nation's capital, more than 200 witnesses are expected testify at a scheduled hearing on same-sex marriage legislation pending before the DC Council.
The hearing will feature public testimony from scores of people supporting the legalization of same-sex unions, and testimony from those who are against the idea all together. Today's hearing will get underway at 9:30 a.m. Eastern time at Council chambers at the Wilson Building. Some religious leaders are also expected to testify about their goal of putting the matter to a referendum vote. As it stands, the measure appears to have more than enough support from Council members. Earlier this year, the Council approved a measure that allows same-sex unions performed out of state to be legally recognized in the District. (Copyright 2009 by VERTEXNews/Newsroom Solutions) |
