Wednesday, Nov 4, 2009 @08:03am CST VALENCIA COUNTY --- The Valencia County District attorney has filed first-degree murder charges against an eleven-year-old boy who is accused of killing his father last August.
Officials say he is probably the youngest person ever to be charged with murder and they are not sure what is going to happen with this case if the boy is convicted of murder because the Children's Code says no child under 12 can be detained. The boy will have to stay in his mother's custody for now, as he is too young to be put into jail. There are several people, including a CYFD clinical social worker, who go and check in with the boy and his mother every week. The case will stay in children's court because kids under 14 in New Mexico cannot be charged as an adult. (Copyright 2009 by VERTEXNews/Newsroom Solutions) |
