Thursday, Nov 5, 2009 @10:13am CST PROGRESO --- A 21-year-old Weslaco, Texas woman is facing federal drug charges after U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers say they discovered nearly one-point-eight-million-dollars worth of heroin in her vehicle.
Officers working at the Progreso International Bridge seized about 22 pounds of Mexican brown heroin after discovering discrepancies in two of her pickup truck's batteries. Amanda Lee Gonzalez was arrested and transferred to the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement special agents who will continue investigating the failed smuggling attempt. Hidalgo-Pharr CBP Port Director Noel Sanchez says this is one of the largest heroin seizures their officers have ever intercepted. Sanchez is commending the frontline officers, K-9 officers and their K-9 partners for a job well done. (Copyright 2009 by VERTEXNews/Newsroom Solutions) |
