  • Dusters Hire Jon Lyles As New Head Coach
    Reported by: Brad Fralick

    Thursday, Nov 5, 2009 @11:08pm CST

Amarillo, TX 11/5/09 – The Dusters named Jon Lyles Head Coach for the 2010 Indoor Football season, the team announced earlier today at a press conference in the Ambassador Hotel in Amarillo.

“We are very pleased to bring back the man who was on the coaching staff who guided this Dusters organization to a championship in 2004,” commented Dusters Owner/President Randy Sanders. “The Panhandle should be proud to have such a loyal individual back in the community. I know Jon has the ability to return a winning culture to the deserving fans of the Panhandle.”

Lyles served two years in the Panhandle, one for West Texas A&M as a Wide Receivers coach (2003) and one for the Dusters (2004). Lyles was apart of the coaching staff who led the Dusters to a President’s Cup Championship (15-3 record) while leading the league in total offense and scoring. His team set the league rushing record that season and coached quarterback Julian Reese to the league’s Most Valuable Player award. Four offensive players were nominated to the “All-IFL” team under his tutelage (Chavis McCollister, Anthony Dingle, Dwayne Miles, and Ray Tapule).

“I’m overwhelmed with joy and excitement to be back in West Texas,” remarked Lyles. “The Dusters and I had some special times during the 2004 season. The relationships I had with players, fans, corporate partners, and staff meant the world to me and I can’t wait to prepare for the upcoming season.”

Lyles has an extensive coaching resume dating back to 1999. The West Texas A&M alum spent the last three years with the Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings, earning accolades such as Assistant Coach of the Year in 2008, while helping Bossier-Shreveport make the playoffs in all three seasons, set franchise records for yards rushing and total scoring along with a franchise best record of 11-5 in 2009 while in the in the Bayou State. Notable players coached include Jason Schule (broke the af2 rushing record in 2009), former Dallas Cowboy quarterback Quincy Carter (earned a birth in the conference championship game), Charlie Martin (Carolina Panthers), and Anthony Armstrong (Washington Redskins).

THE DUSTERS are a proud new member of the Indoor Football League. The team’s front office is located at 901 S. Buchanan in downtown Amarillo. 2010 season tickets are available by calling (806) 350-PASS (7277).
