Friday, Nov 6, 2009 @08:55am CST ELDORADO -- After deliberating less than three hours on Thursday, the jury in the trial of Raymond Jessop found him guilty of sexually assaulting a child.
Prosecutors claimed the 38-year-old member of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints took a 16-year-old girl as a spiritual wife in 2004 at the YFZ Ranch and fathered a daughter with her. The punishment phase of the trial will begin on Monday. Jessop could be sentenced to anywhere from two to 20 years in prison and be fined up to ten-thousand dollars. Jessop was the first of the sect to stand trial. Eleven other FLDS members were indicted on criminal charges after last year's raid on the ranch in Eldorado 1/8 1/8 El-duh-RAY-doe 3/8 3/8.
