Reported by: Chris Martin Sunday, Nov 8, 2009 @10:00pm CST HAGERSTOWN, MD - The Black Ankle Winery has a different color in mind: Green. It's starting from the ground up. The vineyard started going green with it's new tasting room. The building was made of locally milled wood and its insulation is made up of straw bales. This practice alone can save 75% on heating and cooling.
Black Ankle's owners also saved big on labor. In exchange for hard work volunteers learned how to build. The reward is a vineyard in a much cleaner environment. The winery hopes that pays off. Pays off in better wine and a better bottom line. Buildings us 40 to 50% of the energy consumed in the United States. |
