Reported by: Rachel Cox Thursday, Nov 12, 2009 @09:41pm CST BUSHLAND --- The people who lost their home in last week's pipeline explosion in Bushland have filed a lawsuit. The Torres family filed in district court against El Paso Natural Gas and Atmos Energy. They're suing for injuries and damages. 15-year-old Franzesca Torres was taken to a Lubbock burn unit. She has now been moved to a regular room and is improving daily. On Thursday the people that live in Bushland got a chance to meet with the company who owns the pipeline. The main issue many people brought up was the worry that the explosion could happen again. El Paso is still investigating what caused the blast but are working to get counseling and damages paid for. The pipeline that exploded has been in place since the 1940s. Back in 1991 they re-furbished the line and tested the pressure. At the time of the explosion the line was not running at maximum pressure and still is not. The last time it was inspected was about six years ago. In the meeting several people questioned if El Paso would consider re-routing the line and the safety of other lines in the area after the explosion. There is a fund set up for anyone who has damage from the explosion, if you would like to donate or have damage you can go to the Bushland Educational Credit Union for more information. In 2000 another El Paso pipeline exploded in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Twelve people died in that explosion.
