Reported by: David Martinez Saturday, Nov 21, 2009 @09:56pm CST CHILDRESS -- A high speed chase in Childress ends with one man dead.
According to the Childress Police Department, two officers were forced to shoot and kill 28 year old Tabaris Brown. It happened Saturday morning around three. According to police, Brown was speeding when they tried to pull him over. But instead of stopping, police tell us he led them on a high speed chase through at least eighteen city blocks. Investigators say Brown finally pulled over and two officers were forced to shoot. Brown died at the scene and police say he had a loaded handgun. "Like when we got to the scene, all I seen is when he was standing up surrendering to them with his hands up and they just went to shooting him. And he didn't have a gun at all on him. The gun was on the passenger side, it was in the car," says Steven Yarbrough, Brown's cousin. Both officers have been placed on administrative leave. The Brown Family says they will hire an attorney. In the meantime, the Texas Rangers are handling the investigation. |
