Ways to Avoid Baggage Fees and Travel Headaches During the Holidays

The release of this pent up demand is already leading to higher airfares, bigger crowds and worst of all, an airline "fee for all." With families gearing up to hit the roads and skies for the holidays, travel expert Chris McGinnis offers the inside scoop on peak season trips.
He says there are certain days during the peak season that you'll want to avoid the roads and skies.
"Travelers paid airline checked baggage fees totaling $1.6 billion in the first half of 2010," according to Chris. He says there are ways to get that back by staying in certain hotels like Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza and other hotels in the InterContinental Hotels Group will rebate $50 in checked baggage fees to those who spend two weekend nights with them. Kimpton Hotels is doing the same– but only if you are charged for a second bag.
