Nick Lilja is originally from the Pacific
northwest, but is thrilled to forecast for the Panhandle. Since he was 7, Nick's
dream was to chase tornadoes and cover severe weather. What a better place to
forecast than Amarillo?
Nick graduated from Oregon
State University
with a Bachelor of Science in Earth Science with an emphasis in Atmospheric and
Oceanic Sciences. Outside of his school work, he spent time covering Oregon
State Athletics at the campus TV/radio station, KBVR, and wrote for the campus
paper, The Daily Barometer.
After graduating, he worked as a sports reporter at a newspaper in Portland, Oregon.
But eventually decided that he wanted to pair his love of journalism with his
passion for science. So, he stepped away from sports coverage and enrolled at Syracuse University to earn his Masters of
Science in Broadcast & Digital Journalism.
During his time at Syracuse, he began producing his own
weather forecasts and wasn't surprised when one event brought a record total 43
inches of snow to the city in just 96 hours.
So far he has really enjoyed Amarillo.
He runs, bikes and hikes in Palo
Duro Canyon
whenever possible and loves to eat a Monster Cheeseburger at Red Robin every
Friday.
