AMARILLO, TX. --Many of us take for granted the simple things in life, like owning a car.
But one lucky family will soon own a set of wheels thanks to local auto shop Aardvark Automotive.
In this day and age, just about everything in life depends upon reliable transportation.
Without a car, the most simple things are a huge inconvenience.
But thanks to 'Wheels to Prosper' - one family will get a gift they'll never forget.
Lynda Archer, of Amarillo Aardvark Automotive says they're giving away the car to help improve someone's life.
"This is for someone who needs the car, and doesn't have one. For someone who can prosper from having it. They might be coming out of poverty. This could help them get their children to school. They'll be able to go get groceries, take their clothes to the laundromat, it's what they need to progress in their life."
A committee of 6 made up of local leaders in the community, will have to choose just one lucky family to get the car.
29 families applied.
The car that Aardvark is giving away is an all-wheel drive 1996 Subaru Outback station wagon. They're even going to detail it next week.
"We wanted to give back to the community," Archer says. "We wanted to give it to someone who needs the help."
The winner just has to pay taxes and 6 months of insurance.
Aardvark Automotive will announce the winner next Saturday at noon in Ellwood Park.
Sadly, the deadline to apply has already passed, but the public's invited to come out and eat a hot dog, and congratulate the winner.
