Amarillo Police Increasing Patrol for Thanksgiving Week

AMARILLO -- Amarillo Police are having extra officers patrol roads as well as concentrate on impaired drivers, speeding violations, and seat belt and child restraint violations.
Amarillo Officers will be strict in an effort to make this a safe holiday.
There have been 27 people die this year in Amarillo from traffic collisions in 22 separate collisions. 45% have been as a result of impaired drivers. 59% of these fatal collisions involved the offense of speeding. Of those killed in collisions this year, 2 were not wearing seat belts. 6 of the fatalities were from motorcycle collisions and of those 6 killed, 5 were not wearing helmets.
Amarillo Police Department urge the public to take precautions to make this a safe holiday.
Remember to wear your seat belts, observe speed limits, and do not under any circumstances drive after consuming alcohol.
