AMARILLO -- The City Commission takes up putting cell phones down behind the wheel.
At today's meeting, they discussed enforcement.
All handheld cell phone use in the City of Amarillo is banned; starting thirty days after signs go up.
If you're using your phone while you're driving, you may be ticketed if you're not using the speakerphone, voice activated feature, or hands free accessory like a Bluetooth.
There are exceptions. You can use your phone if you're making an emergency call or if you're an emergency responder.
The ban passed through the commission in early September.
