AUSTIN -- Texas lawmakers are returning to work in Austin today as the 83rd legislative session gets under way.
Lawmakers were getting back to work at twelve o'clock sharp this afternoon as members of both the house and senate got sworn in to begin their new terms.
This year's freshman class in the House of Representatives is the second largest in state history, according to former Speaker Tom Craddick, who's been a member of the house since 1969.
Despite his forty years of service, Craddick tells us he's still excited at the start of each new session.
In addition to being sworn in this afternoon, house members also voted on their chamber's leader-- opting to give Joe Straus a third term with the gavel.
