AMARILLO -- An overwhelming majority of Texans believe legalized gambling should be put to a vote.
A new poll shows 82% of registered voters in the state support putting it on the ballot.

The poll was conducted by "Let Texans Decide".

While 82% support putting it to a vote, 62% of those questioned already support a constitutional amendment to legalize casino gambling.

Every time the Texas legislature convenes, there's a new push to legalize gambling and every two years, it gets shot down by lawmakers.

There's no reason to believe they won't do the same thing this time.  But, according to this poll, lawmakers are in the minority on this issue.

Of course, gambling is legal in Texas.  Look no further than the "Saddle Brook" jockey club here in Amarillo.

Five days a week, people plop down money on horses.

Many of these patrons would like to bet on other things as well.

According to "Let Texas Decide", Texans spend $2.5 billion annually at casinos in neighboring states.
