AMARILLO -- The cleanup continues for Amarillo, as parents struggle to deliver their kids to school.

"It's very frustrating," said Tammy Ambs, an Amarillo parent. "

We had a hard time getting here this morning, it took me an hour and I live across the street."

In all six snow plows have been in service for the city since Monday, with one being brought in from out of town. Problem is they're not being used on residential streets.

"We have kind of a pecking order of how we address all of the different snow requirements," said Amarillo Director of Public Works Michael Rice. "As the weather warms up, as the sun comes out, as people do drive up and down those streets you'll actually see most of that snow start to either melt or actually get trampled down and become passable."

Snow plows in town are being used on arterial roads, or roads that lead to major highways or thoroughfares.

Though city officials would like to plow residential roads, they are instead having to rely on mother nature to warm Amarillo.

Said Rice, "As the weather warms up, as the sun comes out, as people do drive up and down those streets you'll actually see most of that snow start to either melt or actually get trampled down and become passable."

Despite the poor driving conditions, some citizens agree witht he city's rationale.

"I think what they did is all they can do, I mean if they spent their time getting residential areas then they wouldn't get key spots done," said Amarillo resident George Persefield. "I think that's what's more important."
