The Gorillas had their biggest offensive output of the year scoring seven goals, including four in the third period. Matt Miller would lead the offensive charge, getting a hat-trick in the contest, the first time a Gorilla player has done so this year. The teams would exchange goals in the first period as Anders Strome scored for the Brahmas, and Matt Miller scored his first of three at 19:13 of the first.
Period two would see the teams swap goals again, this time with both teams scoring twice. Grant Selinger and Bill Vandermeer scored for the Gorillas, and Justin Kinnunen and Strome would score in the period for Texas. The teams would enter the third period all square at 3-3.
The third period would see the Gorillas have their strongest single period output of the year, as they would score four goals en route to their first road win of the year. Miller would complete the hat-trick with two goals in the period, while Chris Lipsett and Austin Sutter both added one for the Gorillas as well. Dan Bauer was in net for the Gorillas, winning his second consecutive start making 24 saves on the 28 shots that he faced.
Amarillo’s victory snapped the Brahmas four game winning streak, during which they had outscored their opponents 17-6. It was also the first time this season that a Southern Conference team had beaten the Brahmas, as Texas was 7-0 against the south coming into Saturday’s Game.
Up next for the Gorillas, they will head to Rio Rancho, New Mexico for a Thursday night tilt with the Scorpions, before heading home for games against Rio Grande Valley on Friday, and Odessa on Saturday.
