Millions of Americans suffer from cold and flu symptoms each year. In fact, it is estimated that adults will suffer two to four colds per year, while children, whose immune systems are still learning to fight cold viruses, can suffer up to 10 colds annually.

And, while epidemics of flu happen every year, the timing, severity, and length of the epidemic depends on many factors, including what influenza viruses are spreading and whether they match the viruses in the vaccine. Last flu season saw the emergence of H1N1 virus which caused the first influenza pandemic in more than 40 years. While not certain, according to the CDC it is possible that H1N1 viruses will continue to spread along with seasonal viruses in the U.S. during this flu season.

Nationally recognized medical expert and RN Linda Ciampa has advice on how to help get you armed and ready for the cold and flu season.
