Teacher of the Week: Ms. Cooper
By: Meaghan Collier
Updated: May 19, 2011
We went all the way to the University of Virginia today to present our Teacher of the Week- well, kind of.
Ms. Cooper teaches kindergarten at San Jacinto Elementary school here in Amarillo. Because this campus is a No-Excuses Campus, each of the classrooms is designated as a different university. This encourages students there to start thinking about college early and often.
This approach to education has proven to work for Ms. Cooper's class-- after all, 100 percent of her students are reading on grade level.
