Several People Injured; Major Damage Caused by Tornadoes in Eastern New MexicoPhoto: Damage from Clovis
CLOVIS -- Two tornadoes hit Clovis and Logan Friday. The first hit Logan about 3:30 p.m. MDT. Another tornado hit Clovis about 7:55 p.m. MDT.
Logan Damage: New Mexico State Emergency Operation Center tells us that the village of Logan appears to be stable. One person was taken to Tucumcari for injuries. Several minor injuries were treated locally. 20 to 25 mobile homes with many businesses and homes had extensive damage.
Clovis Damage: New Mexico State Emergency Operation Center says that 35 people were taken to the hospital and treated for injuries due to the storm. Two were listed in critical condition with one patient transported to Lubbock. Officials are saying close to 100 homes were damaged in Clovis. First reports say that most of the damage were located on Mississippi and Alabama streets. Also damage occurred at Yucca Junior High. Clovis Public Works Departments are currently clearing debris from local roads and sections of the community are closed because of the damage. Crews are also working to restore those still without power. Clovis officials are asking all residents to call (505)-763-9411 for help locating family members or reporting house checks.
