AMARILLO -- The Red Cross wants everyone to come up with a family disaster plan.
Officials say in the event of something like a fire or other emergency you have just minutes to get out of your home, and it's important to know where to go and what to bring.
They say you should have a plan of where to meet if for some reason you can't get to your house.
They say everyone should also keep important documents like insurance papers somewhere where its easy to grab them if you have to get out of your home quickly
Kevin Starbuck, Amarillo's Emergency Management Coordinator said, "We'll basically be providing information to anybody that's interested. We'll be available to visit with you about how to address those various issues, how to make a plan, how to build a kit, how do you stay informed of different hazards in our community."
The Red Cross also has several programs available to help you and your family stay prepared.
