DALLAS -- One of Texas most colorful and outspoken entrepreneurs, panhandle native, T. Boone Pickens, will be this years inductee into the Texas Conservation Hall of Fame.
He'll be inducted the evening of Thursday, Sept. 27 at the Omni Dallas Hotel. Hosted annually by the nonprofit Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation, this years awards dinner has raised over $1 million, a record high since the Hall of Fames inception in 2007.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation cites Pickens' philanthropic interests as reasons for the award.
They say he's given more than $1 billion to medical research, support for military veterans, athletics and academic projects as well as to the support of wild habitats and species conservation.
