AMARILLO -- Local scientists are working to improve area wheat crops.
Texas A&M AgriLife Research in Amarillo will use a grant to investigate wheat diseases cause by mite-vectored viruses.
They're hoping to control them by learning to fight the wheat curl mite.
The mite spreads the viruses.
They plan to develop an accurate forecasting model that help growers plan and fight the mite.
The $3.3 million grant is from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Institute of Food and Agriculture.
