AMARILLO -- The Amarillo Police Department is sending out a warning sign.
Car burglars could be looking for your insurance card and garage door opener.
Few cases like this have been reported but police say the potential for you house to be robbed exists.
They advise you to carry your insurance card and garage door opener with you.
Since January there's been more than fifteen hundred auto burglaries in Amarillo.
"It doesn't matter whether you live in Southeast Amarillo, Southeast Amarillo, Northeast or Northwest, they're happening all over town," says Corporal Brian Thomas with the Amarillo Police Department.
Instead of your full name, Corporal Thomas says you should use your initials on your insurance card and have your address removed.
Last year more than three thousand six hundred auto burglaries were reported to the Amarillo Police Department.
