More kids are staying at home alone this summer.
To keep them safe, police say the most important thing is to communicate.
You should check in with your child every couple of hours
Because cooking is the number one cause of house fires, experts say kids should stay out of the kitchen.
Also tell them not to answer the phone, unless they know its you and never answer the door.
Another good tip, make sure they have plenty to do.
Police say when they get bored, thats when trouble can start.
