AMARILLO -- 47th District Attorney Randall Sims announces that Ernie Lopez has pleaded guilty to injury to a child charges in connection with the 2000 death of 6-month old Isis Vas.
He was originally convicted of sexual assault of a child, who later died.
Lopez was released in March of last year, after the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals overturned his conviction due to ineffectual counsel.
He agreed to a lesser charge and is being released on time served.
Sims says new evidence came to light in the case and cast doubt on whether Lopez sexually assaulted the young girl.
Lopez also allegedly admitted to hurting the baby, but only to revive her after she had stopped breathing.
