AMARILLO -- Amarillo Crime Stoppers celebrates 2012 with awards received at the 24th Annual Texas Crime Stoppers State Conference, including "Productivity Award/Greatest Dollar Recovery" and "Board Member of the Year" won by our Treasurer, Wanda Call.
In 2012 Amarillo Crime Stoppers received 1,604 tips, which is an all-time record for the program. Those tips lead to 165 arrests and the clearance of 296 cases. Of those arrests, 122 fugitives were captured. The percentage of rewards collected was 61%. This proves our tipsters are not always financially motivated and want to improve our community by sharing information on fugitives and unsolved crimes. Tips also lead to the recovery of six weapons, five stolen vehicles, $42,985 value in other stolen/recovered property and $17,592 in drugs seized.
Crime Stoppers used KAMR and KCIT to broadcast 47 wanted criminals, two of those criminals are still wanted at this time. 45 of the fugitives were captured on tips, turned themselves in, or were caught due to other law enforcement contact.
