AMARILLO -- Amarillo has been ranked #17 small city in the country, according to a report from the Milken Institute.
Last year, the city was classified in the large city category, ranking 67th overall. This year's jump vaulted the yellow city into the top 20 for the first time ever.
"I think amarillo has just such a great climate for the business community," said Penni Bentley of the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce. "Things like that that make people take pride in their community, ensure that it's a great place to live and work and raise a family."
Experts say it's Amarilloans commitment to spending locally that keeps the economy thriving.
"Rather than doing your business on the internet and sending our money outside of our community and tax dollars outside of our community," said Bentley. "Sales tax dollars is really what keeps our community growing."
The report is based on the cities ability to create and sustain jobs and economic growth.
