A new attraction in the Panhandle is bringing international attention to Amarillo.

Cowgirls and Cowboys in the West opened last spring, and now the tourist offering has partnered with a group tourism company based in Beijing.

According to representatives at the Amarillo Convention and Visitors Council, the Asian market is something they're interested in.

"Obviously it's important because this travel company focuses on the Asian market, and that's the largest market in the world," Eric Miller with the Convention and Visitors Council said.

And the CVC is focusing on the area's western roots.

The current marketing campaign includes the slogan, "Step into the Real Texas", and a focus on sites like The Big Texan, Palo Duro, Cadillac Ranch and Historic Route 66.

Amarillo was featured in a Japanese airline magazine, and the CVC sends employees to trade shows in Asia.

As for a bigger push in the Asian market, Miller said, it's a definite possiblity.

Right now, marketing plans are already set for 2013, and according to Miller, most area tourists come from surrounding states.

He also said the upcoming weeks of Spring Break will bring in lots of visitors - particularly to Palo Duro.
