In our poll question 96 percent of the people who voted said they would like to see an athletic program at Amarillo College. AC is one of the biggest junior colleges in Texas and one of the only JC's that does not have athletics. I know they used to have a basketball program.. but I would love to hear what some of you have to say about what you would like to see there.. and also hear your opinion if you don't think athletics should be present at AC...

No. The cost of starting up and maintaining a program should be avoided. Lets keep AC affordable and our local taxes to a minimum. Sure, such a program could pay for itself it was successful but that is a big if. It will do little to attract new students or maintain students. Amarillo College did the right thing in dropping it. If you want a local college/university sports program to support we have WT.

JUCO Basketball would be an improvement over the rather poor WT program.

Hmmm....last year WT mens was 11-1 in conference (won its division) and 26-7 overall. I think women did even better. You have got to be kidding if you think JUCO-level basketball would be better.

WT also won four conference championships last year.

So what is 'rather poor' about WT?

True. All of the facitilties that AC used to have which were dedicated to sports have now been given new duties. You'd have to hire staff, build new gyms, get the training equipment................
